This article discusses what to do when your users can't find the PIN sign-in email

Updated over a year ago

Occasionally, an email service that receives Glide's PIN email may classify it as spam or phishing. Glide isn't always notified of this, but when it is notified that the email was blocked, we can submit a request to the email service asking to be reclassified. However, this can only happen after the fact.

Note: Microsoft Office 365 hosted email services are known for categorizing Glide sign-in emails as spam and/or phishing without notifying Glide.

In most cases, Glide's email service is told that the email was successfully delivered, yet users still cannot find them. If your users cannot find the PIN email, try the following:

  1. no-reply@auth.appnotify.io - The PIN email is delivered from, no-reply@auth.appnotify.io. Users should try searching their inbox for emails from this address.

    1. Make sure to search all spam, trash, and junk folders. If an email is found in one of these folders, mark it as legitimate and move it out of that folder. This helps train the spam/phishing service to allow Glide emails.

  2. Remove the magic link - The PIN email can optionally Include a magic link URL that allows users to open their app directly without having to type the PIN in. Sometimes, a email services interpret the magic link URL as part of a phishing schema and removing it allows the PIN emails to be delivered.

    1. To make this change, navigate to Settings->Users & Authentication and uncheck, Include magic link to sign in without PIN.

  3. Change the app name - The subject line of the PIN email includes the app name. Some app names trigger email servers to think the email is spam/phishing.

    1. To change the app name, navigate to Settings->Name & Icon, and change the Title.

  4. Work with IT - In some cases, the email service has quarantined the email and your IT team can release it. Additionally, IT can mark the sender as allowed, so future emails are automatically allowed through as well. Please watch this video for details on how to find Microsoft Office 365's email quarantine center.

Check for yourself

We recently developed an app to help track down email sending issues. If you have an email address that is failing, try submitting it into the app. It will tell you why it failed. Then, you can submit a request to have the issue addressed.
