Microsoft Excel is Syncing but the Data is Different
Updated yesterday

Having a reliable sync between Microsoft Excel and third-party tools like Glide is crucial for maintaining accurate data. However, sometimes you might encounter an issue where, despite the syncing process showing no errors, the data appears stuck or reflects different values than what is present in Excel.

Common Causes of Data Mismatch

  1. Stale Cache: The data source might be cached, leading to discrepancies between the actual and displayed values.

  2. Corrupt or Malformed Columns: Specific columns in the Excel sheet may have hidden formatting issues or errors that prevent proper syncing.

  3. Partial Syncs: Some rows or columns might not fully sync due to connection interruptions or limitations in the third-party integration.

Steps to Resolve the Issue

To ensure proper syncing and resolve any discrepancies, follow these steps:

  1. Copy Affected Data:

    • Identify the affected column(s) in Excel where the data mismatch occurs.

    • Copy the values to a safe location (e.g., a temporary sheet or a new column in the same sheet).

  2. Delete the Affected Column:

    • Remove the problematic column from your Excel sheet to eliminate any hidden issues or corrupt data.

  3. Create a New Column:

    • Add a new column in Excel and paste the copied values back into this column. Ensure the column name matches or is appropriately labeled for clarity.

  4. Re-Sync in Glide:

    • Navigate to the Data Sources tab in your Glide builder.

    • Locate the Excel data source and click the Refresh button (usually represented by a circular arrow icon) to trigger a resync.

  5. Verify Data:

    • After the sync completes, check the affected columns in your Glide app to confirm that the data now matches the updated Excel sheet.

Additional Tips

  • Use Simple Formatting: Avoid complex or overly formatted cells in Excel as they may not sync correctly.

  • Check for Hidden Characters: Remove any extra spaces, hidden characters, or formulas that might cause discrepancies.

By following these steps, you can resolve data mismatches and maintain accurate synchronization between Microsoft Excel and your Glide app.
