Setting Custom Domain with Subdomain Not Successful
Updated this week

Setting up a custom domain can sometimes be confusing. If you encounter issues such as a persistent red error message even after configuring the CNAME and TXT values in your DNS settings, the following troubleshooting steps may help:

  1. Understand the Issue:

    • Typically, when setting up a custom domain (e.g., sub.domain.com) in Glide, you'll be provided with CNAME and TXT records that need to be added to your DNS settings.

    • However, some DNS configurations may not correctly propagate these records if set directly under the subdomain.

  2. Troubleshooting Steps:

    • After entering your desired subdomain (e.g., sub.domain.com) in Glide’s custom domain setup, you will receive the required CNAME and TXT values.

    • Instead of adding these values directly under the subdomain (sub.domain.com) in your DNS settings, try setting them under the root domain (domain.com).

    Example:

    • Your intended custom domain is sub.domain.com.

    • Add the provided CNAME and TXT values to the DNS settings for your root domain (domain.com) rather than for sub.domain.com.

  3. Why This Works:

    • Some DNS providers require that validation records like CNAME and TXT be associated with the root domain rather than the subdomain for proper propagation.

  4. Next Steps:

    • Once the DNS changes have been made, allow some time (usually 24-48 hours) for the records to propagate.

    • Return to the Glide settings to verify the custom domain setup.

If you’ve tried this method and are still facing issues, it might be a good idea to reach out to your DNS provider’s support team or consult Glide’s support for further assistance.
