API Limit Airtable

Updated over a month ago

Starting December 2nd, Airtable will enforce new API usage limits for users on its Free plan, with API access restrictions for calls that exceed monthly limits. These changes could impact Glide users who rely on Airtable as a data source for their applications. Below is a summary of what to expect and how to manage these new limitations.

What’s Changing?

Beginning December 2nd, Airtable will block API calls that exceed the monthly usage limit on its Free plan. This means that if you surpass the limit within a billing cycle, your API calls will be restricted until the limit resets at the start of the next month. However, Airtable will offer a 30-day grace period for the first occurrence. During this grace period, you will retain full API access, allowing continued operation despite surpassing the limit. After the grace period ends, any API calls exceeding the limit will be blocked until the month resets. Note that this grace period applies only once per account.

Options for Continued API Access

For uninterrupted access to the API and higher usage limits, Airtable recommends upgrading to a paid plan. Here are the options:

  • Team Plan: If you're on the Team plan and exceed the API limit, you will still maintain access, though at a reduced rate limit for the rest of the month. Once the month resets, your rate limit will return to normal.

  • Upgrading from Free Plan: Moving to a paid plan, such as Pro or Business, will eliminate restrictions, allowing continuous use at the standard rate limit.

To monitor and manage your API limits, you can view the workspace settings in your Airtable account. More details can be found in the Airtable Workspace Settings Documentation.

How This Impacts Glide Users

If you’re using Glide with Airtable as a data source, these changes may affect your app's functionality if you frequently exceed API limits. Consider evaluating your current usage and upgrading to a paid Airtable plan to prevent any disruption. The Glide team will continue to provide guidance for managing your Airtable integration under these new restrictions.
